Happy Fourth of July...and God Bless America!

fireworks

Even in these troubled times, Americans will celebrate our Independence with parades, fireworks and picnics.  In honor of happier days, instead of writing about trees dying from ozone, I'm posting two videos that seem appropriate.  Of course, if you look at the vegetation in the first one, it does look kinda sick.  Just sayin'.
Source ~ Toxic Fireworks
"Fireworks exploding in the air release toxins that can then land in lakes, ponds, and forest adding a substantial amount of pollution to the fallout area. The fallout will either be directly dropped into the surrounding area, or will come down later in the form of acid rain. Acid rain is the dissipation of acid forming chemicals in the form of rain, sleet, or snow caused by chemicals like sulfur and nitrate.  In addition to toxicity, fireworks are also responsible for starting thousands of fires every year."

This is just the trailer...you can rent it online - it's the funniest vision of the USA since Pulp Fiction!

  1. back to trees:

"This was not a storm where tree limbs just fell on our wires," Anderson says. "This was a storm where large mature trees were uprooted and lifted and just thrown into our poles — snapping our poles in half and wrapping our high-voltage wires around homes, businesses and cars." http://www.freep.com/usatoday/article/56007848?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|p

And nobody is asking themselves WHY? They are sure that the wind did it and that's all.

  2. Back to trees first thing tomorrow Michele - thanks for the link!

Some commenters actually brought up ozone at CP, this is just about unprecedented...maybe so many trees coming down will make people wake up!

  3. even if people "wake up", there is nothing (really) to be done at this stage and i was raised to think that the best way to die is in your sleep. But i am reassured, the majority will go without waking up because it takes so much time and dedication to understand (part of) the whole picture, and time is running out very very fast. We will starve. We can recover from catastrophes if we have enough time between them, which is not the case any more.
If I could not talk to you from time to time, I think I would go completely crazy.

  5. "God Bless America" is a brilliant artistic recognition of cultural decay.

But a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot. ~Robert Heinlein, in his novel Friday

My best advice is to "control space" while America "crowds into a behavior sink" by being rural and cynical in the classical Greek meaning of the word; i.e., voluntary simplicity.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe. ~Thomas Jefferson
